8bit mayhem podcast #10 | Scout made another podcast. This is number 10 in the series. He also added some links to the original demo where the original SID-tune came from. NinjaTracker V2.0 | New version of the C64 muziek editor with different, but still quite minimal featureset. Changes to previous versions include commands (also used as instruments), 2-column tables and a slide function that stops at target pitch. As before, allows to save both normal executable music-data and game-music data without the player. You can download this program from the Tools section on the web page.

Shorten v3.6.0 | Shorten is a fast, low complexity waveform coder (i.e. audio compressor), originally written by Tony Robinson at SoftSound. It can operate in both lossy and lossless modes. Thanks to Michel 'DMX' Bagmeijer for his port to AmigaOS, m68k and WarpOS.

www.amigamusic.com | Chris Gray is a collector of Amiga music. But he always had trouble with mods. Wrong players or trackers or just a mod that was not correct. Welle:Erdball | On Saturday 12th in August Welle:Erdball will be performing at the Summerdarkness Festival in music theatre Tivoli (Utrecht, the Netherlands). Starting in 1990 Welle:Erdball is working on the revival of the 80's. Analog synthesizers in their electronic, minimalistic pop-music with German lyrics attract people to a world of technology, futurism and perfect products. You can think of the catchy sounds of Kraftwerk, Ideal, DAF and Profil. But added with a great show with a Kaleidoscope of computer-art in black and white. In many songs Welle:Erdball makes use of the SID chip. The Commodore 64 is a member of the band. These are reasons enough to go see them live in Urecht.

LQS #94 | Liquid Skies Records is a website about Amiga type music. Several artist are still composing their music on an Amiga and publish their music on this website. This time a track from Alex West and it's called: The Drum Noise. It's a 06:13 long mp3 drum-n-bass track. Cover by DaFreak.

firestARTer at Primary Star | firestARTer aka Thomas Margolf, the self named 'Oldschool-Audio-Nerd' makes music since a lot of years in his bedroom, which is located in the old industrial city Wuppertal in Germany. In 1998 he got a good base for his style at micromusic. Gameboys, Commodores and toy-instruments, mixed with modern synth and beats makes the characteristics of his tracks. After 2001 there have been some CD compilations, a vinyl single and a lot of MP3 releases of his music. In 'Live Mode' you can see him playing his songs with a Gameboy and a Commodore 64 on stage. Together its a nice danceable mixture! firestARTer will preform at the Primary Star Party.

Amiga Music Preservation | Amiga Music Preservation (AMP) is a non profit association that consists at present of two persons: Crown and Curt Cool. They are working on the most comprehensive, complete and precise database about Amiga music. They gather all the music, information and interviews of Amiga musicians. Currently the database has more than 60.000 items.

C64 Orchestra | The Commodore 64 is popular again the last couple of years. Not only as a game console but also as a musical instrument in the dance-scene. For the production C64 Orchestra two famous C64-composers were contacted: Rob Hubbard and Jeroen Tel. The work of these two Godfathers of C64 game-music is arranged for and preformed by 12 musicians from the Ricciotti Ensemble. The conductor is Bas Wiegers. The compositions from Rob Hubbard: Monty on the Run, One Man And His Droid, the Master of Magic and International Karate. The compositions from Jeroen Tel: Cybernoid II, Hawkeye, Myth and Supremacy. Press Play On Tape | This is a Commodore 64 revival band, (almost) exclusively playing tunes from the 80's home computer Commodore 64 as rock on real instruments. If you want to see them in action download one of the movies from their website.

8-bit Podcast #8 | Special Birthday Episode - Jeroen Tel in the mix! Episode #8 is a liveset performed by Jeroen Tel / Maniacs Of Noise which they did on March 24th this year on the dutch WeekendXL radioshow. (43,6 MB MP3)

Vein | Vein is a Commodore SID tune made by Klax. The SID was entered at the Symphony 2006 party. It reached the number 5 place in the C64 Music Competition.

BigSid | This is a competition were SID composers have to work together. A composer must use one editor for composing a peace of a tune, then another composer will take that tune and extends it, and so one until a big sid is made. To prevent that the tune is influenced by things like the editor version, multispeed tune, PAL/NTSC frequency, and so on... all composers must use the same tool.

Jeroen Tel at X2006 | The organizers of X2006 have announced that the well known musician Jeroen Tel will perform on X2006. The date for the 8th X party weekend is; 13, 14 and 15 October. (Hengelo, The Netherlands.) X-2006 will be a pure C64 only event. PC's, laptops and PDA's are not allowed at the partyplace unless you have 'em hooked up as a slave for your superior C64 equipment ofcourse.

TED Storm | New music demo for the 264 series of Commodore computers. 4-Mat made a music pack with lots of color and a massive seven TED tunes Along with the note file, the source code for the music driver and some documentation for it have been included in the archive so that people can,we hope, get a few ideas or perhaps use it to produce their own TED tunes.

HVSC update | More than 600 new SID tunes are added to the High Voltage SID Collection. And about 1000 SID's have been fixed. The current version has now reached 58 MB (zipped) of music.

SID Compo 5 results | And the winner is: Michal Hoffmann with the tune Assatas Song. Look at the c64.sk website for all the results of the 5th SID compo.

Tiny SID 2 Compo | Here are some of the rules for the Tiny Sid 2 Compo. Tune must be a C64 executable (prg). Size of the prg must be 256 byte, 512 byte or 1 kbyte. You can use all the C64 ROMs code, like Kernal and Basic. Program must be executed with a simple RUN. Look at the website for the complete list. Send it in before 8 April 2006. Voting from 10 to 19 April 2006.

HVSC | The High Voltage SID Collection is updated. Current version is #44 and is 4 MBytes in size. Adding 600 new SID's to the total of more than 30.000. The complete file is now 58 MByte. You can download the HVSC collection for free and they also provide a SID player for it.

XMMS-SID | XMMS-SID is a plug in for XMMS for playing music that is commonly referred as SID-tunes aka music from Commodore 64 computer and it's close relatives. This program is written for the Linux operating system. For the actual emulation /playing, XMMS-SID can utilize several emulator engines. Features: 2-8x oversampling support, libSIDPlay v1 or libSIDPlay v2 with reSID-builder and much more.

VIC-TRACKER COMPO 2005 | This is a friendly competition to squeeze out some interesting music and sounds from one of the most restrictive sound hardware produced. VIC-TRACKER is a full-featured tracker-style music editor for the Commodore Vic-20 programmed by Daniel Kahlin. Requirements are Commodore Vic-20 + 16Kb memory expansion or emulated in VICE and VIC-TRACKER software.
